President & Chief Executive Officer
A native of Huntington, NY, Raf began his career in construction at the age of 13. He studied Civil Engineering for two years after high school before opening his first construction partnership in 1984 with our very own Pete Longo. Since then, Raf has been building and remodeling luxury homes and commercial properties throughout Long Island.
During the course of his tenure in the industry, Raf has worked in every aspect of construction, from framing and masonry to plumbing and electric, as well as insulation, roofing and landscaping. He has developed relationships with professionals in our field and established a reputation for honesty and loyalty in the industry. In 2015 he founded Raf Development Corp., whose reputation is rooted in that history and those relationships. In his role as President and CEO, Raf oversees all stages of each RDC project from initial consultation to completion.
In an effort to provide uncompromised quality and service, Raf has built a company with a fully staffed office capable of handling development, construction management, and general contracting. Moreover, in order to guide his clients through the important and often challenging process of building a custom-home, by motivating and inspiring exceptional talent, Raf has assembled a unique and gifted team.
Project Management & Procurement
Pete, also a native of Huntington, and Raf met during college where Pete studied Construction Technology. Before that, he studied Architecture at BOCES of New York State while working for a carpenter in order to learn both aspects of the business, and even had an apprenticeship with an architectural firm. In 1984, he and Raf started their first construction business and worked together for several years. In 1990, Pete switched gears for a while, followed his passion for cars and opened an auto body shop which he ran successfully for many years. While his passion for everything automotive never faded, he started working with Raf again in 2005 and they have been working together ever since. All told, Pete has over 30 years’ experience working in carpentry and construction.
Project Management & Sales
Brad comes to RDC with over 40 years’ experience in the construction field. While at Cold Spring Harbor High School, he attended beginner and advanced BOCES of New York State Wood Shop classes. Brad first started working as a carpenter in the area in 1982 then he moved north to New Hampshire where he was a Construction Supervisor and oversaw many commercial construction projects, including developments for Bank of Rhode Island, Pizzeria Uno, Mall of New Hampshire and others. While in New Hampshire, Brad also studied Construction Supervision, Blue Print Reading & Estimating and Post & Beam. His heart, however, will always be in New York so he eventually returned to Long Island where he continued his career in construction. He started Oz Development Group, Inc. and joined GTC Construction Management as a partner, and is still very active in both companies. In his many years in the business, he has participated in the development of many local commercial and residential buildings, some of which are well-known landmarks in Huntington and the surrounding area today.
Kyle, like Raf, began his construction career at a young age working for a local general contractor until he graduated from high school. After briefly studying Business in college, Kyle knew his passion was carpentry, so he returned to construction and has been doing it ever since. He worked for Cunningham Carpentry for almost 20 years until later buying that company and starting K. Backer Construction Inc., a framing contractor, which he ran successfully for another 7 years before joining Raf Development Corp. During that time, Kyle became involved in speculative building as well, a process which he is still actively involved with. Kyle also has more than 40 years’ experience in every area of construction.
A native of Huntington Bay, Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts from Long Island University and is certified in HR/Business Essentials from Cornell University. Prior to joining Raf Development Corp., Katie worked in the film industry as a member of the Art Department, constructing, designing, and interior decorating sets for feature films.
Katie has taken her passion for creating to the development industry, joining the RDC team as the Business Manager. As Business Manager, she coordinates business operations to help achieve maximum productivity and ensure business goals are met.
Estimates & Marketing
Matthew began his career in construction after receiving his Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Suffolk County Community College. With a passion for architecture, Matthew began his work in the construction field with a general contracting firm where he gained experience in all areas of construction, from framing and decking to roofing and siding, as well as assisting with estimating those projects. Between construction projects, Matt worked for a local painter and contractor on several ad hoc painting and restoration projects, including some that involved historic buildings and churches. After many years in the field, Matt took the estimating knowledge he had gained during his tenure in the field and began estimating full time. Matthew is excited to utilize his broad construction knowledge in his role as Lead Estimator here at RDC.
